Companies House has confirmed a rollout date for mandatory Identity Verification

This date marks the start of the transitional period that will last for 12 months within which all directors of Limited Companies, Member of the Limited Liability Partnerships, General Partners of Limited Partnerships and People with significant control will need to verify their identity for Companies House.

It is expected that this requirement will impact approximately 6-7 million individuals who will need to finalise their verification with Companies House by November 2026.

New directors will be required to verify their identity at the time of company incorporation or their appointment into an existing company, whereas existing directors will have to complete verification at time of filing of their next confirmation statement.

People with significant control (PSCs) will also be obligated to verify within a 12-month transition period.

It will become an offense to act as an unverified director once the requirements are in place.
