DIRECTOR VERIFICATION AND NEXT STEPS

Affordable ID verification for Companies House—with personal help

Becoming a director or preparing a new UK company? This guide explains how Companies House identity verification fits the next company step. Coddan helps UK and overseas customers arrange supported verification, with clear instructions, suitable evidence, personal checks and professional review. Tell us what is already complete so we can help identify the work still needed.

Companies House ID verification, you can confirm your identity quickly, securely, and in full compliance—whether you’re a seasoned director or a PSC just starting. No queues, no paperwork—complete the check on your smartphone or web browser for only £40. Do you have a passport or UK driving licence? Perfect. No photo ID? Your UK bank or building society details work too. As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), we’re trusted to deliver affordable Companies House ID verification that meets rigorous standards, serving UK and international directors. Enjoy a streamlined verification process that keeps your business moving while ticking all the compliance boxes. Get official, stay secure, and handle Companies House verification with confidence and zero fuss.

Your personal manager is your contact by email or telephone. They explain what to provide, give instructions, communicate progress and update your order and verification status. Normal manager assistance is included with every verification package; paid priority handling, extended consultation and continuing company support are separate choices.

Identity evidence and confidential codes follow the instructed secure process. Keep them out of your initial enquiry email. Read our privacy information.

The free GOV.UK One Login route remains available where suitable. If Companies House has already accepted your verification, another role or company does not automatically require another check. If all applicable steps are complete, no further service may be needed.

Suitable service choices and clear fees

Choose a service that suits your evidence and verification position. Each package covers one individual; being both director and person with significant control (PSC) does not itself require two purchases. Compare included checks, professional review, assistance and total charges. You can view the standard UK verification order or ask about particular requirements before choosing.

Easy to start from the UK or overseas

Order online; Coddan creates your Credas case and arranges an email or SMS invitation. You complete your own supported document and liveness checks. Review what to prepare. If you are unsure about your documents, camera-equipped device or remote access, ask us to confirm suitability before ordering.

Efficient progress through preparation

Have accurate personal details, address history and suitable evidence ready. Explain name differences or missing information early. Coddan reviews the results and clarifies outstanding questions, helping avoid unnecessary repetition. Your checks, our review and Companies House code issue remain separate stages; any later appointment or filing has its own requirements.

Direct help with questions and progress

If an invitation is missing, a photograph is unclear or a check stops, contact your manager with the message or difficulty. We explain the next step and what information needs attention. You can ask which stage remains without first diagnosing the technical problem or placing another verification order.

ACSP verification, professionally reviewed

Coddan CPM Limited is a registered Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP). We review the Credas results and necessary clarification, then submit ACSP confirmation when satisfied. Companies House emails your Personal Code to the address supplied for you. Completing the personal checks alone does not complete every stage.

TCSP support for connected company work

Coddan also provides formation and company administration as an HMRC-supervised trust or company service provider. AML customer checks serve a separate purpose from Companies House identity verification. You can arrange supported incorporation, director-appointment or existing-company work through Coddan, with the selected scope and charges agreed separately.

Your Personal Code and the company task that follows

Your Companies House Personal Code belongs to you. It may be needed for new-company incorporation or relevant roles and existing-company administration. Coddan can help with supported verification and the related company work, so you can arrange both through us. Code issue, role linkage and the underlying filing are distinct; later work is separately instructed and charged.

Email info@coddan.co.uk with your role, verification position, difficulty, relevant company details and date. For document questions, describe the type and issuing country. We explain suitable work and charges before you decide; an enquiry creates no obligation to order.

Written service agreements, engagement letters or service schedules are available to record selected work, charges and your Coddan contact.

Find guidance for your present verification position

Check Coddan CPM Limited on the official ACSP list and HMRC supervision register. Registration identifies the relevant provider role; it does not imply government endorsement.

Buy Now Expert Identity Verification™ – Two Professional Verification Pathways for £125. Endorsed for
Choosing the right verification route depends on your specific documentation and circumstances — which is exactly why Coddan CPM built Expert Identity Verification™ around two distinct pathways. Our Fast-Track Digital Verification uses secure Identity Document Validation Technology (IDVT) to verify eligible biometric identity documents quickly and efficiently, suiting applicants with standard, straightforward documentation. Where biometric verification is unsuitable — for example, due to document type, age, or condition — our Expert Manual Verification provides the right alternative.

Conducted by trained compliance specialists under our regulated Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) framework, this route accommodates a broader range of supporting documentation, including combinations of government-issued photo identification and acceptable proof of address. Every application is reviewed individually, with verification records retained securely in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Both pathways are designed to satisfy Companies House identity verification requirements and support the issue of an individual's Companies House personal code, subject to successful verification. Whether you're a UK resident, overseas director, or international entrepreneur, this package is the right choice if you're unsure which verification method fits your situation. Digital Where Possible. Expert Where Necessary. The Right Pathway for You.

Ticking the Companies House identity verification box doesn’t have to be a headache. Coddan CPM, an Authorised Corporate Service Provider, makes affordable ID verification for Companies House straightforward — just £40 for a quick, secure, and fully compliant check. Whether you’re a UK-based director or an international PSC, the process is simple: complete it online via a smartphone app or web browser using a biometric passport, UK driving licence, or your UK bank or building society details. No paperwork, no fuss — just a hassle-free way to meet your legal obligations and get on with running your business.

For affordable ID verification for Companies House, start with your present position: do you need a new check, help using an existing Personal Code or a separate company filing? This guide helps UK and overseas founders and directors understand the connection between the individual, their verified identity and each company role, so they can choose suitable work without unnecessary repeat purchases.

Use the free official route

Companies House uses GOV.UK One Login. Depending on your answers and eligibility, it guides you through an app, online security questions, or online photo-ID preparation followed by a participating Post Office visit. Each method has its own evidence requirements. Overseas residence does not itself rule out the direct route. Read the official verification options.

Choose personal assistance from Coddan

Choose a suitable published service and order online. Your personal manager explains what to provide; Coddan sets up the Credas case, reviews the completed checks and clarifies outstanding information. We submit ACSP confirmation when satisfied, after which Companies House issues your Personal Code. Compare supported verification services.

If Companies House has already accepted your verification, tell us what remains. Another directorship, a PSC role or a new company does not automatically mean another paid check. If the relevant steps are complete, you may need no further service.

An enquiry creates no obligation to order. Describe your position first; send identity evidence and confidential codes only through the appropriate instructed secure process.

Supported verification through Coddan

The service is for an individual director or person with significant control (PSC) who chooses professional help with Companies House identity verification. You provide accurate information and participate in your own checks. Coddan provides case setup, instructions, professional review, necessary clarification and ACSP confirmation when satisfied. You can choose a straightforward service without first purchasing a consultation.

Choose and prepare

We review your order and explain the information and suitable evidence needed. Coddan creates your Credas case and arranges an invitation by email or SMS. Your details, document suitability and access needs matter more than whether you live in the UK.

Personal checks and professional review

You complete the supported document and liveness checks yourself. Coddan reviews the results and any further information needed. Clear preparation and prompt clarification help avoid unnecessary repetition; the personal manager explains progress.

Confirmation, code and remaining actions

Coddan manually submits its verification confirmation through its Companies House ACSP account when satisfied. Companies House emails the Personal Code to you. Director/PSC linkage and incorporation or another filing remain separate actions.

Affordable verification through clear scope and total charges

Each verification package covers one individual, rather than one appointment or one company. A person who is both director and PSC does not automatically need two verification purchases. The standard UK service is £40 + £8 VAT = £48 total. The corresponding overseas ID-verification service is £40 total, with no UK VAT charged. Additional selected services have their own agreed charges; this is not a price for every possible verification circumstance.

Affordability comes from choosing suitable work with clear inclusions: case instructions, normal personal-manager assistance, professional review and clarification within the selected service. Priority handling, extended consultation and later company work are separate choices. Check the selected package’s inclusions, options and total before paying. Ask about any further attempt or additional work before authorising it; a difficulty does not automatically require another purchase.

For other requirements, compare the available verification services. For several people or professional clients, use the discount enquiry below.

Illustration: an overseas founder who is director and PSC

Illustrative example—not a reported client case. A founder outside the UK plans to be the sole director and shareholder of a new company and to meet a PSC condition. The first question is whether Companies House has already accepted that person’s verification. If it has, the remaining work may concern using the existing code and completing the company registration, rather than another identity check.

If verification is outstanding, the founder can consider the free official route or choose Coddan’s supported service. For the latter, suitable evidence, accurate personal details and individual participation are needed. Residence abroad does not automatically make the case complex or require an enhanced package.

Following the supported checks, Coddan’s review and ACSP confirmation when satisfied, Companies House issues the individual’s Personal Code. The incorporation filing needs the director’s code; PSC identity-verification details follow the applicable separate requirements. Share ownership alone does not create an additional verification purchase.

The practical outcome to look for is clear: verification completed, the code received, and each relevant registration or role step addressed. Company formation is separately instructed and charged. Explore company formation through Coddan.

Illustration: incoming directors and a new PSC

Illustrative example—not a reported client case. An existing company plans to appoint two directors, one of whom will also become a PSC. Count the distinct people who still need verification, not the number of roles. Check whether each already has accepted verification and an available Personal Code.

The company should identify the proposed changes and dates. Each person requiring a check supplies their own information and completes their own participation. One person’s completed verification does not complete another person’s check or prove that the whole board is compliant.

Appointment decisions, reporting an outgoing director, PSC changes and any share transaction have their own requirements. A verification order does not include a restructuring review or automatically implement those changes. Ask Coddan about the supported company work, scope and charges before instructing it.

For a quotation involving several people, use the multi-person and professional-client enquiry. Describe the assistance requested so we can confirm the available coordination and scope. Each person’s evidence and code remain confidential; agree any authority to share information.

Companies House issues an 11-character Personal Code following successful verification. It belongs to the individual. It does not automatically connect every role or complete a company filing. Keep it confidential and follow the appropriate secure instructions when authorising someone to use it for a particular task.

Companies House Personal Code

Identifies your verified individual record for the applicable role requirements. For example, a director’s code is provided with the relevant incorporation, appointment or confirmation-statement filing; a PSC has a separate identity-verification-details requirement. Find, save or replace your Personal Code.

Company authentication code

A 6-character alphanumeric code associated with the company, used to authorise relevant electronic filings. It does not verify the director or PSC. Some work needs both codes for different purposes; the requirements depend on the submission route. Request or manage a company authentication code.

Neither code replaces the other, the company number, your GOV.UK One Login password or an agent’s presenter credentials. Tell your manager which task remains without putting confidential credentials in an initial enquiry email.

KYC/AML checks and Companies House verification have different purposes

Coddan customer due diligence

KYC/AML checks help Coddan understand its customer, relevant ownership/control and the instructed work. We obtain and review the information and evidence appropriate to that instruction. These checks do not themselves produce a Companies House Personal Code.

Companies House identity verification

This concerns the individual’s statutory verification requirements. In Coddan’s service, supported checks, review and clarification lead to ACSP confirmation when satisfied, followed by Companies House issuing the code. Separate role or filing steps may remain.

Some information may overlap, but earlier AML checks do not automatically establish Companies House verification, and having a Personal Code does not complete all due diligence for a new instruction. Tell us what has already been done; we establish what remains and explain any required evidence and charges.

Prepare accurate information and suitable documents

For the ACSP verification process, prepare your full and former names, date of birth, home address, address history for the last 12 months and accessible email address. Coddan also needs contact details, including a telephone number, for case setup and communication. Explain your relevant role, company details, current verification position and any material date.

Coddan’s document arrangements include passports from supported issuing countries, UK/EU driving licences and supported national identity cards. Proof-of-address arrangements include bank or utility documents and, for UK cases, council tax evidence. Your manager specifies suitable evidence for the case; a document category does not mean that every country, format or document will be accepted.

Keep the original available for the instructed checks. Review whether names, dates and address information are accurate. Explain former names, transliteration differences or a missing part of your address history; do not alter truthful information merely to make it match a record. Additional evidence follows the instructed upload or secure submission process.

Official evidence rules and the service you choose are distinct

The Companies House ACSP standard permits different evidence methods. For its person-checked Option 2, the required combination is two photographic Group A documents, or one Group A and one Group B; a non-UK resident must provide at least one government-issued document. A utility bill or birth certificate alone is insufficient. The Coddan service described here uses Credas-supported checks and professional review; ask your manager which evidence it supports.

Ask before ordering if you are unsure about a document type, issuing country, language, camera-equipped device or the liveness process. We explain the supported service and instructions, including the device and app/browser requirements for your selected checks.

Common difficulties: a calm next step

  • Glare or unclear photographs: follow the capture instructions, check lighting and ensure the requested document details are readable. If capture still fails, contact your manager with the message or difficulty.
  • Name differences or incomplete information: explain what differs and any genuine name change. Coddan reviews the information and clarifies what supporting evidence is needed.
  • Missing, doubtful or interrupted invitation: check your contact details and junk folder, then contact your manager through a known Coddan contact route. Ask us to check the invitation or explain how to continue; do not trust a message solely because it displays a familiar name.
  • Completed checks but no code: establish whether Coddan’s review and ACSP confirmation have completed, then use the code-delivery guidance.

An interrupted check, unsuitable document, outstanding review and a later company-record problem are different issues. They do not all require a new paid check. Ask which step remains and whether any additional work or charge is proposed before agreeing to it. Read guidance on unresolved verification issues.

Verification for several people or professional clients

Ask for a suitable discounted quotation

Discounted quotations are available for orders involving several individuals and for professional intermediaries arranging verification for clients. Each verification package covers one individual director or PSC. Count only the distinct people who still need verification; accepted existing verification can change the work required.

Email info@coddan.co.uk before ordering with the organisation’s name and legal structure, number of people, relevant dates and assistance or coordination requested. Intermediaries should also give their firm’s name and say whether the enquiry concerns one client organisation or several. We confirm suitable work and discounted charges before you decide; there is no obligation to order.

Identify the instructing party, individuals, payer and proposed communication contacts. Agree authority for progress information. Paying or coordinating does not automatically give access to another person’s evidence or code; each person completes their own checks.

Personal-manager help with your verification order

Your personal manager is your contact by email or telephone. They provide instructions, explain the required information, communicate progress and update order and verification status. This normal assistance is included with verification packages. It is separate from paid priority handling, extended consultation and continuing company-secretarial support.

Tell us your role, the last completed step and the question you need answered. You need not identify the technical solution before asking. A pre-order enquiry can describe your document type and issuing country, relevant company and date; identity documents and confidential codes follow the appropriate secure process.

Coddan CPM Limited’s ACSP work is to review the verification information and submit confirmation when satisfied. Its HMRC-supervised trust or company service provider role concerns relevant AML obligations and connected company services. Neither status is government endorsement or a general licence to provide solicitor services. Check the official ACSP list and HMRC supervision register.

UK and overseas customers can choose suitable support

Start with your evidence and access requirements

Living overseas does not automatically make verification complex or require a premium package. Suitable documents, accurate details and access to the supported checks determine the practical preparation. Tell us about language, access or document questions early so we can explain what the selected service supports.

You may also need a separate company appointment, address service or filing. Ask about the work you require; do not assume that a verification package includes every company service or that another provider must be found.

Director eligibility and the appointment decision

An individual director must be at least 16 and legally eligible to act, including meeting disqualification and insolvency restrictions where applicable. UK nationality and UK residence are not generally required. Follow the company’s articles and obtain the necessary appointment approval and consent; verification does not make that decision for the company.

Directors manage the company and have statutory duties. Shareholders hold shares. PSC status depends on the applicable ownership or control conditions; a director is not automatically a PSC. Someone may occupy all three positions, but each has its own significance.

One individual can have separate director and PSC requirements

Verification once; address each relevant role

Accepted verification normally does not need to be repeated for each role or company. The Personal Code must still be provided for the applicable director and PSC requirements separately. Buying one verification does not automatically perform either role-linkage task or every subsequent filing.

Check the date for the actual role and event

Mandatory verification began on 18 November 2025. Before filing a new director appointment, the individual must have verified and their Personal Code must be available. Each director’s code is also needed for a new-company registration. Directors already registered when mandatory verification began provide their codes through the applicable confirmation statement, separately for each company. PSCs have circumstance-specific 14-day periods; use the official guidance and register to identify the applicable dates.

If you were registered as a PSC before 18 November 2025 and are also a director of the same company, your separate PSC code-submission period starts the day after its confirmation statement date and lasts 14 days. Filing the statement early does not move that period. If you were registered before that date but are not its director, your period is the first 14 days of your birth month in the applicable transition. Someone becoming a PSC after 18 November 2025 can provide the code when first added or within 14 days of being added. Check the dates for your own position. Check the current role-specific requirements.

Corporate directors, limited partnerships and other later-phase roles must be checked separately rather than assumed to follow the same commencement. This supporting guide does not replace entity-specific advice.

Recognise completion of the verification stage

An order receipt confirms an order, and finishing Credas participation completes the requested personal checks. Coddan must still review results, clarify outstanding information and submit ACSP confirmation when satisfied. Companies House then emails the Personal Code to the individual’s supplied email address. Receiving the code is the useful verification outcome; it is not confirmation that every company task is complete.

If the code email has not arrived, check spam or junk and ask Coddan to check the email address used for its confirmation. An incorrect address needs correction. If the address is correct, follow Companies House’s ACSP code-delivery guidance for requesting the email again. Coddan does not generate or independently reissue the code.

Identify the next task before purchasing anything further

You may need to provide the code for an appointment, incorporation, confirmation statement or separate PSC details. Establish which role and filing remain. If a record contains an error, describe the discrepancy rather than changing accurate identity details to fit it. A correction or linkage question is not automatically another verification check.

Keep the official code email and follow its account-access instructions. Use the official Personal Code guidance if the code is lost or compromised. Do not share a One Login password or allow another person to complete your personal checks.

Director, shareholder and PSC records answer different questions

A director appointment does not by itself prove a change in ownership or control. Check whether the actual transaction also changes PSC information or another company record. Explain the proposed change and provide relevant existing documents if you need company-administration help. Coddan confirms the supported work and charges; identity verification alone does not include ownership-chain analysis or a restructuring project.

Questions about overseas directors and company roles

The following answers concern UK companies with individual directors. A registered overseas company or a different entity has its own reporting requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a foreign national become a UK company director?
Yes. UK citizenship is generally not required; the individual must meet the applicable eligibility and verification requirements.

Can a non-resident become a director?
Yes. UK residence is generally not required. Check suitable evidence and access for the chosen verification route.

Is identity verification required?
Yes for the individual director requirements described above. The relevant appointment or transition date determines what must be done; see the role-specific guidance rather than relying on older rollout wording.

Is a director the same as a shareholder?
No. Directors manage the company; shareholders hold its shares. One person may be both.

Is a director automatically a PSC?
No. PSC status depends on the applicable ownership and control conditions, not the director title alone.

Find help with the relevant company-administration task or describe your requirements before ordering.

Arrange supported company work through Coddan

If you need company formation, an individual director appointment, a PSC update or another supported administration service as well as verification, you can ask Coddan to arrange the relevant work. Tell us the proposed or existing company, actual change, participants, available documents and date. We explain what we can undertake and its scope before you decide.

  • Company formation: creates the company through its registration process; verification alone does not incorporate it.
  • Existing-company administration: supports the selected appointment, change or filing; authority and approval for that work remain necessary.
  • Supported identity verification: addresses the individual verification stage, with separate Personal Code use and company work where required.

Record selected work and charges in writing

Written service agreements, engagement letters or service schedules are available to identify selected work, charges, the Coddan contact and any applicable service period. Ask for the arrangement appropriate to your instruction. Continuing company support is separately agreed; a one-off verification order does not automatically enrol you in annual work or monitoring.

Before ordering, clarify any material cancellation question, inability to supply suitable evidence or potential further charge. These circumstances are not automatically treated as the same event. Read the published terms and ask us to confirm the arrangements applicable to the selected ID service before it starts.

AP01 reports an individual director appointment

Form AP01, or the applicable electronic appointment filing, notifies Companies House of an individual director’s appointment. It does not replace the company’s valid appointment decision. The company must normally report a change of director within 14 days. Obtain consent, follow the articles, complete required verification and use the correct filing route.

The appointment information includes the person’s name, date of birth, nationality, occupation, service and residential addresses, and required verification details. Use the current official AP01 guidance and form. AP01 reports an appointment; TM01 reports termination; CH01 reports a change of director particulars. A PSC change has separate reporting requirements.

Prepare truthful, consistent particulars. A nickname, omitted name, incorrect date or address can require clarification. Explain genuine differences and review the draft before approving submission. Completing verification does not correct older company filings or itself appoint the director.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a foreign national become a UK company director?
Yes, subject to eligibility and the applicable verification requirements. Nationality alone does not require another class of Personal Code.

Does a director have to live in the UK?
No, UK residence is generally not required. A suitable service address and the required residential information must still be provided.

What does AP01 do?
It reports the appointment of an individual director to Companies House. Verification and the internal appointment decision are distinct steps.

Is a director automatically a PSC?
No. Assess the actual ownership and control conditions; reporting the appointment does not by itself settle the PSC position.

Can an ACSP help with director appointments?
Coddan can assist with supported verification and separately instructed appointment work. ACSP confirmation alone is not an appointment filing.

If a route could not accept your evidence or a check stopped, explain what happened before buying another service. Coddan can review the information within its supported process and explain what needs clarification. Human review and manual ACSP confirmation do not mean an independent manual or forensic document-verification route, and do not guarantee recovery.

Check readiness, approve the work and recognise its outcome

  1. Establish the position. Identify the person, role, accepted verification and company task still required.
  2. Complete any outstanding personal verification. Choose the free official route or suitable supported service; use the relevant instructions and evidence.
  3. Prepare the company action separately. Check authority, appointment approval, consent, particulars and the applicable code requirements. Review and approve the proposed filing.
  4. Confirm the relevant result. Code receipt, role linkage and Companies House acceptance of a company filing are separate outcomes. Check which has completed and what remains.

Deal with the applicable dates early. Non-compliance can carry legal consequences, including financial penalties or prosecution where the relevant offence is established. An interrupted check is not itself proof of an offence. Buying verification or receiving a code does not guarantee timely filing or prevent penalties. See the official verification guidance for current consequences.

Evidence, privacy and your authority

Use the instructed secure evidence process and keep codes out of ordinary pre-order email. Identity evidence and required regulatory records are different from public company information. After a verified identity is connected to its records, Companies House displays a verification statement; this is not publication of your identity-document images. Read Coddan’s privacy information.

If an accountant, colleague or other intermediary coordinates the instruction, agree who may receive progress information and who is authorised for the later filing. Each individual still completes their own checks. Do not assume that payment authorises access to another person’s confidential evidence or code.
